Local Incentives Offered in the Enterprise Zone
1. Capital improvements will enhance property values, encourage further private sector investments and improve the quality of the zone's business environment. (Six million dollars from 1995 through 1999 have been committed.)
2. Targeted employment training and placement services will improve the skill levels of the zone's labor force and improve the health of existing businesses, as well as provide skill ready employees for new and expanding businesses. (Through City’s Office of Employment Training.)
3. Crime prevention education and security audits will improve the zone's business environment, reduce potential business costs in the future and enhance property values in the long run. (Through City's Police Department.)
4. Small business financing will enable existing businesses to purchase and upgrade their older facilities, thus improving the commercial tax base, as well as present lower costs for facility purchase for new businesses locating within the corridor. (Through the Virginia Asset Financing Corporation.)
5. Marketing assistance to promote the zone's available facilities and land will enable potential new businesses and developers to identify the cost competitive opportunities within the proposed zone. (Through AEDP.)
6 & 7. The business assistance and technical assistance provided by the Office of Housing and a local Small Business Development Center within the zone will ensure that existing businesses remain healthy and serve as an attraction for new businesses.
8. The accelerated development process will provide an attraction to the zone both in cost savings to new businesses and developers and in cost savings to existing businesses in renovations and expansions. (Through City's business permit office.)
9. The Blighting Influences Program will remove blight, unsanitary and dangerous housing conditions from properties within the Potomac West Neighborhood Strategy Area. (Through City's Housing Office.)
10. The Home Rehabilitation Loan Program will enable homeowners within the Potomac West Neighborhood Strategy Area to correct code violations and structural deficiencies in their homes. (Through City's Housing Office.)
