AEDP Wins American Planning Association Award
(Alexandria, VA) The American Planning Association Economic Development Division has awarded the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. (AEDP) the “2005 Excellence in Economic Development Planning Award” for the recruitment of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to Alexandria, Virginia. AEDP was chosen for its recruitment efforts that has created more than 7,100 new jobs and generated activities leading to new initiatives that enhance the City’s economic opportunities and quality of life.
The USPTO project met the criteria for its quality, originality and comprehensiveness of design, as well as its implementation and contribution to the community. Relocation of the USPTO to Alexandria, Virginia has transformed a nearly vacant former rail yard into the world’s intellectual property gateway and a thriving center for commerce, retail and residential opportunities. The culmination of a decade-long planning process, the coordinated development achieves the vision of Alexandria’s political, business, and community leaders by providing a new economic engine for the City that simultaneously complements and respects the City’s rich heritage.
The AEDP is a public/private partnership, which plans, directs, manages and implements efforts to attract, expand and retain business operations in the City of Alexandria. AEDP has worked since 1981 as a facilitator to establish Alexandria as a nationally recognized community and business center. AEDP is located at 1729 King Street, Suite 410, Alexandria, VA 22314. 703-739-3820, email: info@alexecon.org; website: www.alexecon.org.
