AEDP Releases New & Improved Available Retail Listing

The Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. (AEDP) is pleased to announce the publication of the June edition of our Available Retail Space Listing.  This report includes the most accurate and up-to-date retail information available, and is distributed to retailers, real estate brokers, site selectors, and developers internationally.

This year’s spring and summer seasons are looking to be very strong for Alexandria retail.  Vacancy rates for retail space stand at 2% (statistic courtesy of CoStar), and is steadily declining; while inquiries for available retail space are at record levels.  The warmer months in Alexandria signify dramatic increases in area foot traffic and retail spending.  Coupled with the visit of the Godspeed and the numerous other street fairs, concerts, and public events scheduled in the next few months, Alexandria will undoubtedly be a leading regional destination this tourist season.

Retail is thriving in nearly every submarket of the City.  New restaurants and upscale apparel and lifestyle stores are currently in the works for Old Town, including some notable big names and anchor tenants.  Carlyle is awaiting the completion of several new mixed-use projects, all of which are fueling the demand for strong retailers in the area.  Del Ray and Arlandria continue to be examples of successful neighborhood retail models, each with near zero vacancy, and an established community spirit.  The West End of Alexandria continues to watch its shopping centers fill up with tenants, several of which maintain such a high demand, they have not been included on our Available Retail Space Listing for several quarters.

In addition, members of the AEDP staff recently returned from a successful International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) conference.  Alexandria remains on the cutting edge of retail, both in development, tenant, and product trends.  In order to further drive Alexandria’s retail economy, AEDP has introduced some new features on this season’s Available Retail Space Listing including:

  • Submarket Descriptions

  • Expansive For Sale Property Listings
  • Redevelopment Opportunities Listing

As retail trends evolve, so does AEDP’s research and publications, and we are pleased to share our latest report.  The report can be accessed on AEDP’s website at the following address, http://alexecon.org/pdf_docs/AvailableRetail.pdf .
