Stuart Litvin Selected as New Alexandria Economic Development Partnership Executive Director
(Alexandria, VA) – Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille today announced the appointment of Stuart Litvin as the new Executive Director of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP). AEDP is the City-funded organization, which serves as the primary economic development agency for the City. “We are very pleased to have a person of Mr. Litvin’s experience and skills come to Alexandria in order to help take our economic development activities, such as business retention and recruitment, to a new level,” said Mayor Euille. “Our City’s economic status is top-notch and we want to keep it that way by expanded proactive activities aimed at filling our office buildings with quality jobs and enhancing our retail base.”
Mr. Litvin was selected after a national search overseen by the AEDP Executive Committee. Scott Humphrey, AEDP’s outgoing vice chair who served on the selection committee stated, “It was gratifying seeing that many qualified persons were interested in this position and that we were able to hire our top candidate.”
Since 2005, Mr. Litvin has been the director of business development for Select Greater Philadelphia (PA), a regional, economic development marketing organization dedicated to building the economy in the Philadelphia area. His responsibilities included developing and maintaining relationships with the professional economic developers in the eleven-county region that includes five counties in south New Jersey, and one county in northern Delaware.
From 1997 to 2005, Mr. Litvin was President of the Hollywood (FL) Business Council. As President of the Council, a public/private partnership, Mr. Litvin was responsible for the development of the Local Alternative Economic Development Initiative Program, marketing outreach and the business retention and expansion program. He also served as Hollywood’s primary liaison with the Broward (FL) Alliance, Enterprise Florida, Inc. and other economic development partners. Other past economic development positions include: Executive Director, Rockbridge Area (VA) Economic Development Commission in Lexington, Virginia, as well as with the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development in New York City, as Director of Governmental Affairs with a trade association.
“I believe my experience and abilities fit well with the goals of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership,” said Mr. Litvin. “I am a hands-on type individual who wants to have a direct impact on the vitality of Alexandria. I also look forward to working directly with City leaders on their goals for economic development in the City.”
Mr. Litvin earned his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing at Pace University, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Relations at Pace University. He has achieved Certified Economic Community Developer (CecD) status through the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). Mr. Litvin has been an instructor at the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute and the Virginia Institute of Economic Development at Virginia Tech University.
Mr. Litvin’s appointment is effective August 1.
