This year’s summer season is proving to be very strong for Alexandria retail. Exciting new editions to the restaurant community like Eammon’s/A Dublin Chipper, Thrasher’s PX, and La Tasca are all opening their doors this summer; as well as several others in the coming months. Renovations are rapidly underway at Foxchase Shopping Center with a new Harris Teeter grocery store nearing completion. New retail construction is advancing in Carlyle, including the upcoming Westin Hotel, which will feature ground floor retail and an upscale anchor restaurant. The City successfully launched a pilot program for closing the 100 Block of King Street to automobile traffic – enhancing the pedestrian retail and street experience. In addition, AEDP is also sponsoring a citywide Façade Improvement Grant Program in an effort to beautify Alexandria’s retail main streets, and ensure that Alexandria remains one of the most attractive retail destinations in the Mid-Atlantic region.
