AEDP Releases September 2006 Local Economic Indicators Report

(Alexandria, VA) – Alexandria’s September 2006 Local Economic Indicators Report (LEIRS) has recently been published and is now available for viewing on the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. (AEDP) website. This detailed summary can be accessed at www.alexecon.org/leirs.html. AEDP compiles these figures from numerous national, state, and local sources to provide a statistical measure of the economic health of the City.

The most notable gains in the 2nd Quarter included a 9.4% rise in retail sales from the 2nd Quarter of 2005. This upward trend illustrates the strengthening of Alexandria’s retail community that will likely continue as future figures will include the positive impacts from the completion of the redeveloped Foxchase Shopping Center and full tenant absorption at the Potomac Greens shopping center on Slaters Lane.

Almost every other economic indicator remained steady alongside the 1st Quarter 2006 figures, showing only slight fluctuation.

The Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. (AEDP) is a public/private partnership which plans, directs, manages, and implements efforts to attract and retain business operations in the City of Alexandria.
