Alexandria Mayor and AEDP Plan Special Retention Celebration for Local Fordham Brewing Company

(Alexandria, VA) — Fordham Brewing Company first approached the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. (AEDP) with a variety of business issues in June 2002. AEDP was able to utilize a variety of business assistance programs to ensure Fordham remained in the City, and is providing services to help expand their business in the City. To celebrate, Mayor Donley will “tap the Oktoberfestbier keg” at Fordham Brewing Company on October 1st, at 4:30 p.m.

The traditional Oktoberfestbier has been tapped by the Mayor in German cities to coincide with the fall harvest festivals ever since the 1800s. “We look forward to recognizing this tradition in the City of Alexandria,” said Allen Young, Fordham Brewmaster. Fordham Brewing Company is located in the Birchmere building at 3701 Mt. Vernon Avenue.

AEDP’s small business development manager was able to help Fordham secure an SBA loan that ultimately allowed the company to remain in the Birchmere. A referral to JobLink, the City of Alexandria’s Work Force Development program, allowed Fordham to find the labor they needed, that also allowed the business to capitalize on enterprise zone job tax credits. AEDP is also providing assistance locating additional space for Fordham’s expansion.
