AEDP Releases December 2006 Edition of Available Retail Space in Alexandria

(Alexandria, VA) -- The Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. (AEDP) is pleased to announce the publication of the December Edition of our Available Retail Space Listing. The report is a compilation of the latest and most accurate retail information available, and is distributed to retailers, real estate brokers, site selectors, and developers. The new report can be found on AEDP’s website at the following address:http://www.alexecon.org/pdf_docs/AvailableRetail.pdf

As the holiday season approaches, Alexandria retailers are poised for their busiest season for retail sales. Early reporting from the Alexandria Gazette and Alexandria Times Newspapers indicated very strong sales from local retail merchants throughout the City during the Black Friday Weekend. Jesse Davary, manager of the Discovery Channel Store on King Street in Old Town remarked that sales were, “Definitely up from last year. They just kept climbing all day and into the night on Friday. Saturday was more of an up and down flow but still very good overall.”

As shoppers hit the streets this season, they will be pleased at the array of new Alexandria stores and restaurants that have recently opened. New restaurants like Bohio’s Cuban Bistro, Buzz Coffee Shop and Farrah Olivia by Morou are now open for business, as well as the brand new Harris Teeter grocery store in the Shoppes at Foxchase. Bruegger’s Bagels, Overwood Restaurant and Walgreens Drug Store are scheduled to open in Old Town in the coming months, and future plans are in place for many new retail businesses.
