The AEDP serves as a key point of contact for the City of Alexandria where businesses, organizations and individuals can come for general business information and referral assistance. Our goal is to provide assistance to businesses to ensure economic development and business growth. AEDP assistance helps businesses to:
- Relocate or establish a business
- Start a new business
- Expand existing operations
- Compete profitably and effectively in the marketplace
- Increase and retain workforce and operations
Business Start-up and Expansion
Our specialists assist prospective and existing business owners by helping you find resources and services to start-up, locate, develop, and grow. We offer guidance on utilizing a variety of federal and state and private sector programs, as well as how to navigate business licensing and registration requirements and comply with permitting and regulations. In addition, our staff provides direct assistance to help you find an available space or site to start, locate or expand your business.

For those starting new businesses, the Alexandria Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is also a great resource for counseling, training and other information.
Existing Business Retention and Outreach
We are committed to working with business owners in the City of Alexandria to learn more about your operations and to understand ways in which AEDP can better serve you by helping your business to grow and prosper. Through our business outreach program, we routinely visit your business location to explore issues and opportunities affecting your business, and to offer help that would allow you to take advantage of those opportunities and resolve issues. In addition, information and training events are regularly offered by AEDP.
